momoco bird [Fukura Plum]

“momoco” — porcelain figures in Arita ware. They express the craftsmanship of Arita ware, handed down for more than 400 years, and an endless pursuit of beauty, in special collaborations with Arita's finest makers. The little bird, a messenger of good news, stands for happiness and peace. Birds living in pairs symbolise a happy marriage, and their flight makes them a popular gift for new beginnings. Shaped after a plump, lovable fledgling about to leave the nest. <Fukura Ume> Plum blossoms, the herald of spring, raised in relief with the ikkin technique: slip is squeezed from a tube to draw lines that stand up from the surface, giving each hand-drawn piece a unique character. Bunzan Kiln, which makes this piece, has long specialised in ikkin. “Fukura” is written with lucky characters meaning fortune and abundance. Ikkin, vivid indigo underglaze, red, pink and gold overglaze, and finally the little eyes — all painted by hand, using Arita ware's many decorating techniques. Delivered in a dedicated box.
