During the Edo period, Arita potters incorporated various stylistic aesthetics unique to Japan. One of these is the style of Rinpa art, perfected by Korin Ogata. He depicts familiar subjects such as garden trees and flowers in bold compositions and colors, and expresses this feature in Arita ware through the generous use of gold. This pattern is a reproduction of a design representative of the Old Imari style. With large chrysanthemums in full bloom against the indigo background, garden trees peeking out from the window paintings, and a harmonious combination of white porcelain, colored illustrations, and gold, this is a luxurious piece of Arita ware. The inside of the incense burner has a flower-shaped incense holder, so it can be used as both a stick and a cone without adding ash.
